After Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins, it is difficult to see a path for Aaron Glenn to keep his job into 2027. The 28-25 defeat was one of those losses that feels hard to come back from.
Here is what I think Glenn and the Jets need to do for him to get a third season as head coach:
No more embarrassments
The Jets have had two embarrassing losses this season. The first was to the Bears, who ran 89 plays against the Jets, and then Sunday’s loss to the previously winless Dolphins. The Jets were supposed to be past the embarrassment stage this season. Those losses were a theme of last season, particularly in the final month of the year.
Glenn cannot afford any more of these. That means beating teams such as the Dolphins and the Cardinals and the Chargers. It means this week’s game with the Raiders at least should be a back-and-forth game deep into the fourth quarter. It means they can’t get blown out by teams such as the Chiefs, Bills, Patriots and Vikings.
