“Last Man in Tower,” the Aravind Adiga adaptation starring Manoj Bajpayee, is headed to Indian theaters this September and has unveiled its first teaser.

The film, directed by Ben Rekhi and produced by Rana Daggubati‘s Spirit Media, will mark the first time Bajpayee and co-star Boman Irani have shared the screen.

Adapted from Adiga’s novel of the same name – the author also wrote Booker-winning “The White Tiger” – the screenplay was written by Sooni Taraporevala, with Hindi-language dialogue by Juhi Chaturvedi. Divya Dutta completes the principal trio, with Sukant Goel also in the cast.

The story follows Masterji, a retired schoolteacher whose refusal to go along with those around him places him in direct conflict with his own community. His act of quiet resistance ripples outward, throwing into relief the choices and compromises of neighbors – including Mrs. Puri – as an offer of change tests what each of them is willing to hold on to.

Rekhi said: “It’s been a deeply fulfilling experience bringing ‘Last Man in Tower’ to life with an incredible team top to bottom, from Rana Daggubati producing, to Sooni Taraporevala scripting, all based on Aravind Adiga’s incredible book. The most rewarding part has been witnessing the power of Manoj and Boman – two giants of cinema – working together for the first time in this film. Divya brings an incredible depth and emotional strength to the ensemble, and the combination of these three actors makes the world of the film particularly special. ‘Last Man in Tower’ is an urgent story about holding onto community and family through turbulent times… a story that has only become more relevant with time.”

The release will also be a milestone for Spirit Media, the Hyderabad-based company “Baahubali” star Daggubati founded in 2005: it is the outfit’s first Hindi feature production.

Daggubati said: “‘Last Man in Tower’ is a deeply human story. What drew us to it was how naturally it finds something universal in the lives of a very specific group of people. There is something very compelling about the way it explores the choices we make and the things we hold on to. The entire ensemble of cast led by Manoj, Divya, and Boman bring an incredible depth to their characters. ‘Last Man in Tower’ also marks an important milestone for Spirit Media as our first Hindi feature production, and our continued effort towards creating space for fresh new stories and voices for the big-screen audience.”

Rekhi is a Los Angeles-based director whose credits include the SXSW Audience Award-winning “Waterborne” and “Watch List,” which earned 11 nominations at the Filipino Oscars and won two. His documentary short “The Breakthrough Group” was qualified for the 2026 Academy Awards in the best documentary short subject category. “Last Man in Tower” is his sixth feature.

Music is by Govind Vasantha; cinematography by Rangarajan Ramabadran. Additional producers are Guneet Dogra and Pratiksha Rao.

Emmy voting is now closed, and not a moment too soon.

Every year, more than 27,000 members of the Television Academy — actors and editors, showrunners and composers, the people who actually make television — sit down with their ballots and decide who walks away with an Emmy. And every year, almost none of them will tell us, on the record, what they really think.

So, like we do with Oscar voters, we reached out to a few of them ourselves.

In the final days of voting for the 78th Emmy Awards, Variety spoke with dozens of Academy members across the organization’s 31 professional peer groups — the specialty divisions that sort the membership by craft, from performers to picture editors — and promised each of them anonymity in exchange for total candor. What we saw was a very small snapshot of where the race could go when awards are handed out across the first two weekends in September.

Every voter was also asked the same four questions off the ballot — their biggest snub, the most overspent FYC campaign, the network or streamer having the best season and the one win that would actually move the business. Their answers close each entry.

In the categories deemed “area awards” — hosted nonfiction and variety series — voters have the opportunity to select multiple nominees by answering a simple question: Does this show deserve an Emmy? Yes or No. Interestingly, not one voter Variety spoke with checked “Yes” for every nominee, and only four of those surveyed selected more than one. That strongly suggests voters aren’t viewing these categories as an opportunity to spread the wealth, but rather as a traditional “may the best show win” competition.

Ballots have been edited for length and, where necessary, to protect identities.

The opinions are their own. They’re contradictory, occasionally indefensible and, at least for the purposes of this article, the only ones that matter.

Notably, and vitally important to point out, 10 ballots are not an official presidential poll. They are barely even a focus group. But what you get is a window into a small, unscientific and anecdotal sample of a voting body of more than 20,000 industry professionals. Nobody should mistake this for a forecast, and the voters themselves would be the first to tell you as well (except for one, anyway).

What these conversations reveal, year after year, is how little of the field any one voter has actually seen. Most watch a fraction of what they’re voting on, then default to what they feel they’re supposed to pick — the title everyone’s talking about. It’s a very human way to fill out a ballot, and it makes Emmy voters a notably more out-of-the-loop bunch than the Oscar crowd I sample every season, who at least tend to show they’ve done their homework.

If you fold in what these 10 told us — and what they suspect their colleagues are quietly doing — the picture that emerges looks an awful lot like the one the pundits have been sketching all along.

“The Pitt” looks poised to take drama in a runaway. Comedy is most definitely “Widow’s Bay” against “Hacks,” though the freshman holds a considerable edge over the departing champ. And in limited series, the expected “Beef” vs. “DTF St. Louis” duel is real — but I was struck by how much affection kept surfacing for “The Beast in Me.” Call it, at the very least, a spoiler worth watching.

The first two nights celebrating the artisans and the Governors Gala will take place on Sept. 5-6. The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards air Sept. 14 on NBC.

Final Emmy predictions will be revealed before the first ceremony date.

Los Diablos Rojos regresaron de Puebla después de ganar dos partidos consecutivos y mantener viva una remontada que comenzó 0-3. Esta vez no hubo otro regreso. Los Pericos ganaron 3-0 en el Alfredo Harp Helú, eliminaron al bicampeón y avanzaron a la Serie de Campeonato de la Zona Sur.

El América dio un golpe de autoridad en la Leagues Cup 2026 al vencer 2-0 al Columbus Crew en el Dignity Health Sports Park y conseguir su boleto a las semifinales del torneo.

Las Águilas encontraron rápidamente la ventaja. Al minuto 11, Raphael Veiga recibió fuera del área, cambió de perfil y sacó un disparo colocado que pegó en el poste antes de terminar en las redes para firmar un golazo y colocar el 1-0.

Y en medio de esta incesante evolución, el revés una mano, uno de los golpes más estéticos, elegantes y emblemáticos de la historia del deporte se encuentra al borde de la erradicación en la alta competición.

Durante la antesala del US Open de 2026, la leyenda suiza Roger Federer abordó esta problemática con una mezcla de realismo periodístico y nostalgia deportiva, ofreciendo un diagnóstico preciso sobre por qué este recurso técnico ha desaparecido de forma alarmante de los primeros lugares del ranking ATP.

Federer, poseedor de uno de los reveses a una mano más icónicos, letales y reverenciados que ha visto el tenis, no eludió el debate cuando la prensa le consultó sobre la crisis innegable de este golpe. 

"La inmediatez está matando el arte", dijo. "Tal vez por eso voy a entrenar esta tarde con Musetti, ¡para asegurarme de que esté preparado y darle algo de sabiduría!", comentó el suizo en tono distendido. El italiano es uno de los pocos tenistas que aún tienen el revés a una mano dentro de su repertorio de golpes.

En febrero de 2024, el tenis experimentó un hito histórico sin precedentes: por primera vez desde que se instauró el sistema computarizado de la ATP en agosto de 1973, el codiciado top 10 del ranking mundial se quedó sin un solo jugador que utilizara el revés a una mano. 

Este bloqueo sistémico se ha mantenido y agravado. Aunque figuras como el griego Stefanos Tsitsipas o el incombustible búlgaro Grigor Dimitrov intentan mantener viva la llama, la realidad es que el circuito está totalmente monopolizado por los jugadores de revés a dos manos, quienes dominan abrumadoramente las rondas definitivas de los torneos grandes. 

Hoy en día, golpear de revés con una sola mano es una anomalía estadística que apenas cuenta con un puñado de representantes dentro del top 100 mundial.

El diagnóstico de Roger Federer sobre esta desaparición va más allá de la pista y apunta directamente a las academias y a las estructuras de formación base. Según el suizo, el primer gran obstáculo estructural es el relevo generacional del cuerpo técnico. "Cuando yo crecía, diría que el noventa por ciento de mis entrenadores jugaban a una mano. Creo que cuando tu entrenador es un jugador de una mano, lo más probable es que tú también lo seas", argumentó. 

En la actualidad, la inmensa mayoría de los técnicos formativos crecieron en la era moderna del revés a dos manos, por lo que resulta más sencillo e intuitivo enseñar ese mismo gesto a los niños.

Federer confesó haber vivido esta complejidad pedagógica dentro de su propia familia. 

Uno de sus hijos se encuentra en pleno proceso de transición, intentando cambiar el revés a dos manos por uno a una mano, lo que le ha permitido al campeón observar la tremenda dificultad biomecánica que esto implica para un infante. 

"Veo lo difícil que es para él golpear y controlarlo. Con el tiempo consigues el control, pero lleva tiempo", relató. En un deporte hipercompetitivo donde los talentos juveniles necesitan ganar torneos rápidamente para atraer patrocinios, esa curva de aprendizaje resulta inaceptable. "Hoy en día no tenemos tiempo; todo tiene que ocurrir inmediatamente", sentenció.

Finalmente, en el plano estrictamente estratégico, Federer identificó un cambio radical en los patrones tácticos y geométricos del circuito ATP. Durante su juventud, la dinámica del juego se repartía equitativamente.

"Antes, solía hacer un 50/50 entre voleas, juego en la red y juego de fondo de pista", recordó el suizo. 

Hoy, gracias a la ralentización de las superficies y a la tecnología de los cordajes de poliéster, esa proporción ha mutado hacia un 90/10 a favor de los largos e implacables intercambios desde la línea de fondo.

A Florida driver allegedly fleeing a traffic stop slammed head-on into a school bus carrying 19 children before abandoning his damaged vehicle and fleeing on foot, authorities said.

The dramatic Tuesday morning incident was captured on video, including footage of the vehicle crashing into the Sumter County school bus and police body camera video showing a deputy chasing down and arresting the suspect.

All 19 children aboard the bus were safe and uninjured, according to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.

Qahiem Williams, 23, faces multiple charges after authorities accused him of fleeing a traffic stop and crashing into a school bus carrying 19 children. (Sumter County Sheriff's Office)

The incident began around 7:20 a.m. when a deputy conducting school-zone traffic enforcement in front of The Villages Intermediate Center spotted Qahiem Williams, 23, allegedly driving 17 mph over the posted speed limit on County Road 466 near Tatonka Terrace.

According to the sheriff's office, the deputy made a U-turn and activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, but Williams allegedly accelerated and sideswiped two vehicles at a traffic light.

Authorities said the collisions damaged the axle of Williams' vehicle, causing him to collide head-on with a Sumter County school bus on County Road 103.

Video taken from inside the bus shows the collision, with the driver's side door of Williams' vehicle appearing to open moments before impact.

Williams then allegedly got out of the vehicle and fled on foot, according to the sheriff's office.

Body camera video shows a deputy pursuing Williams before apprehending him near a Walmart.

Williams was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including fleeing or eluding, driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana, leaving the scene of a crash, resisting an officer, hit-and-run and a moving traffic violation, according to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office website.

Authorities said Williams also had two outstanding Sumter County warrants for fleeing or eluding and driving with a suspended license.

Sumter County Sheriff Patrick Breeden condemned the alleged actions, saying they put children's lives in danger.

"I have zero tolerance when it comes to actions that put our children's lives in danger," Breeden said in a statement.

"This suspect has a history of this type of behavior and our community is safer with him off our streets," he added.

Williams was medically cleared before being transported to the Sumter County Detention Center, where authorities said he was being held without bond.

Smith, a South Carolina mother, was convicted of killing her two young sons — 3-year-old Michael and 14-month-old Alexander — after she strapped them into her car and allowed it to roll into a lake. Prosecutors contended she killed the boys at least in part because the man she was romantically involved with did not want a relationship with a woman who had children. She received a life prison sentence.

Smith's defense contended she was in a fragile mental state and suffered from severe depression, characterizing the act as a failed suicide attempt in which she had intended to end her own life along with her sons'.

As jurors begin to deliberate on Thursday, Rep. Tommy Pope, who is currently the speaker pro tempore for the South Carolina House of Representatives and prosecuted Smith, told Fox News Digital he thinks Clancy failed to prove she had a break from reality.

"So as a prosecutor, what you try to do, and you've seen it in this case, is the prosecutor will point out all the things that she did that it can be mundane. Sometimes people watch and go, why do they care that she ordered dinner? Why do they hear that she sent her husband away or was able to dial the phone or those things? But that's what you're looking at. Was it a break from reality? Or did she just commit a horrible, horrible crime and make a horrible, horrible choice?" Pope said. "In these circumstances, Clancy had, like I said, all the prior treatment. But I still don't really see the break with reality."

However, Pope said that one of the things that "jumps out" for him is a clear lack of motive in Clancy killing her children, which was present in the Smith murders.

"In this one, it's hard to see the end game," Pope said, referring to the murder case against Clancy. "What was her goal after? Let's say that even jumping out the window was a suicidal gesture, which obviously went terribly wrong for her, if that was the case. But what was her end game? And that's one disconnect I see."

Gregory Saathoff, a University of Virginia forensic psychiatrist who consults for the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit, testified Wednesday that financial pressure was among the stressors Clancy faced and may help explain why she killed her children.

Saathoff said Clancy felt her "brain had been damaged" and could no longer do the work she loved or help support her family, which left her with a sense of being a burden.

Defense attorney Kevin Reddington questioned Saathoff about his experience with terrorism, drawing from him an acknowledgment that sleep deprivation is employed as a form of torture and that severe insomnia "can actually lead to psychosis." Saathoff confirmed the point, saying, "Yes, it's possible."

Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, best known for her polka dot sculptures in eye-popping colors and shimmering "Infinity Rooms," has died. She was 97 years old.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, her representative David Zwirner said Kusama passed away from "multiple organ failure" at a Tokyo hospital on Aug. 14.

The wildly imaginative Kusama used her art to express her obsessions: Repetitive brushstrokes on dotted canvases she called infinity net paintings; giant orange and black, polka dotted pumpkins; enclosed rooms with mirrored walls and twinkling lights that seem to go on forever; fluorescent paintings and sculptures. She often described her artwork as a means of survival. For the viewer, it was a reflection of one's place in the vast universe.

"Our earth is only one polka dot among a million stars in the cosmos," she wrote.

Kusama grew up in Matsumoto, at the foot of mountains in Central Japan. Her family owned a seed nursery. During World War II, she and other children worked long hours in a parachute factory.

Throughout her life she suffered from hallucinations. She wrote in her autobiography that, as a little girl, she would draw the visions in sketchbooks to "help ease the shock and fear" of the episodes. But her mother objected to her art-making and would take away her art supplies.

After discovering a book of paintings by Georgia O'Keeffe in a secondhand bookstore, Kusama wrote to the famous artist, asking for advice. O'Keeffe wrote back, telling her it was tough to make a living as an artist in the U.S. but encouraged Kusama to make the trip and to show her art to anyone who might be interested.

In the late 1950s, Kusama moved to New York and thrived within the city's avant-garde scene. During the Vietnam War, she staged public "happenings" where she would paint polka dots on the naked bodies of fellow protestors. They handed out copies of an open letter the 28-year-old Kusama wrote to President Richard Nixon proposing they have sex if he end the war. "As we soar through the heavens, we'll paint each other with polka dots, lose our egos in timeless eternity, and finally discover the naked truth: You can't eradicate violence by using more violence," she wrote.

"She shocked the living daylights out of people," Richard Castellane told NPR in 2017. Castellane was Kusama's dealer in the 1960s. He remembers one of her Infinity Rooms that was full of phalluses and another that had masses of blinking colored lights and a Beatles soundtrack. "The machine would be setting off these lights in almost like a machine-gun rhythm," he remembers, "And what occurred, of course, was the lights would bounce from mirror to mirror to mirror to mirror. You couldn't focus on anything. You had no sense of space because space was infinite." Castellane says Kusama's work astonished people. "They were just mesmerized and rather overwhelmed. It was something very new."

But gaining respect as a female artist wasn't easy. Curator Mika Yoshitake told NPR, "It was tough to get the attention in a very male-dominated art world at the time. She also was exoticised — and she didn't hide it, either. She was wearing kimonos and presented this kind of exotic, oriental figure."

Despite her successes, Kusama was barely making ends meet, and she continued to hallucinate and have panic attacks. In the early 1970s, she moved back to Japan and checked herself into a psychiatric institution where she lived for the rest of her life.

With major exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe, Yayoi Kusama's popularity soared. The Smithsonian's Hirshhorn and the Tate in London are among the many museums that have shown her work. In 2017, the Yayoi Kusama Museum opened in Tokyo.

Kusama continued to make art well into the 2000s in a studio across the street from the mental hospital. Her designs are on cellphone cases, Lancôme lipsticks and Louis Vuitton products.

Throughout her life, Kusama was adamant that, for her, creating art was a necessity.

"If, a hundred years from now," Kusama wrote in her autobiography, "someone were to see my art and think 'Kusama did some really good work,' I would be satisfied. Art, for me, is a creed."

Just like that, the moment everyone expected arrived. Shortstop Ha-Seong Kim delivered off the bench for the Atlanta Braves to walk it off in the bottom of the ninth against the Los Angeles Dodgers, 6-5.

The stage was set in cinematic fashion. There was no designated hitter, so manager Walt Weiss had to go to the bench for a bat in place of reliever Victor Mederos. It was between Kim and Dominic Smith, who has also had a heroic moment this season. Weiss opted for the matchup with the right-handed hitter against the lefty pitcher.

He knew the chance could be coming, so he started to get ready for the potential call.

"I knew that I warming up in the cage, and I knew that a lefty was coming up, so I was just putting the work in the cage, and it worked out pretty well," Kim said via his interpreter, David Lee.

Before the walk-off, Kim hadn't had a hit since June 3. His last at-bat was Aug. 15. His adversities began before spring training even started, when he had to have surgery on his right middle finger. After that, he had his struggles at the plate, with another stint on the injured list, on the way to reaching this point.

If there was a chance to prove he was due, that was the perfect moment.

"I'm definitely grateful," he said, via Lee. "And we really have a great group of guys in the clubhouse, and of course, in a baseball season, there's going to be lows, and I feel like this year is showing that for me, but I feel like if I continue to put the work in, baseball is going to continue, and I'm going to find my upswing."

For Kim, it likely means more knowing as well that many have questioned by he has stuck around to this point. Other shortstops have already come and gone. Even without much playing time, he's still here.

Credit where it's due, his focus remained on trying to get back to form. He kept putting the work in and tuned out the noise.

"I mean, he never pouted," manager Walt Weiss said. "He's been working his ass off and gets a moment that is just poetic justice for that to happen. So, really happy for him."

What it means for Kim going forward is a wait-and-see. However, after that big hit, he's earned at least a chance to get back in the lineup for a least a game. There's intrigue in seeing if this jump-starts another solid September. As the Braves as a team work to correct course after a tough few weeks, it could be coming at the best time possible.

At least 25 New Jersey towns blew millions in opioid settlement money, reportedly spending the massive windfall on lavish purchases like an electric Mustang, custom monogrammed jackets and splashy concerts — instead of vital addiction services the funds were supposed to support.

The Garden State, which has lost an estimated 30,000 to opioid deaths and left 150,000 addicted over the last decade, settled a groundbreaking national lawsuit in 2021 against Big Pharma — Purdue Pharma, Johnson & Johnson, CVS and 10 other painkiller manufacturers — that was initially praised by experts, addicts’ loved ones and cash-strapped nonprofits as a measure of restitution and pathway out of the crisis, NJ.com reported.

But the $1.1 billion payout — set to be distributed through 2040 and half of which has funneled directly to towns and counties since 2022 — has largely been used on pricey wish lists instead of beefing up addiction services, drug prevention efforts and treatments across the battered state, an investigation by the outlet found, citing experts, advocates and some state officials. 

“This is blood money,” said former New Jersey assemblyman John Armato, who tragically lost his son Derek to a fatal overdose in 2020. 

“Hundreds of thousands of people are dying because of this,” Armato, 78, fumed to the publication.

Among the most extravagant purchases was a $73,000 custom vinyl wrapped 2022 Mustang Mach-E for the Atlantic City Police Department; $600,000 for two awareness concerts in Irvington, and nearly $150,000 to a non-profit in Camden to identify broken street lamps.

Atlantic City received over $2.3 million from the settlement and has since gone on a shopping spree — splashing the cash on 30 monogrammed jackets and around $140,000 on clothing, backpacks, consulting services and a city homeless workforce program.

Meanwhile, Irvington “wasted” over $600,000 on two opioid awareness concerts in 2023 and 2024, according to a blistering July 2025 report by the state comptroller’s office.

“None of the billboards, promotional materials, or T-shirts that Irvington provided to the Office of the State Comptroller included information about obtaining treatment or avoiding abuse of opioids,” the report said.

New Jersey municipalities have spent about $2.3 million of the total opioid payout by exploiting vague settlement language and ambiguous guidelines — which violates the 2021 national agreement, a 2022 state attorney general’s memorandum and the 2023 state Opioid Law, according to NJ.com.

Camden forked over $148,000 to a non-profit to identify and document broken streetlight, which city spokesperson claimed was aimed to “impede the drug trade and prevent open drug use.” 

Manchester Township spent $57,000 on a new car for a school resource officer to “combat drug addiction and overdose related issues (in the) school system,” and Lindenwold, which received $166,000 in the settlement, planned to build a trailer where kids could play video games. 

“I’m trying to think of words that I would be willing to say in a newspaper, and I can’t think of ones that are safe to use,” Sandy Gibson, addiction researcher and counselor at The College of New Jersey said of the outlandish expenditures. 

“But that’s sort of everything that’s wrong with there being no oversight with this.”

While some municipalities have spent the money frivolously, others have come under fire for sitting on it — with more than $53 million collecting dust in municipal accounts for as long as three years, NJ.com reported.

As of June 2025, Summit had nearly $1 million in the bank — but hadn’t spent a cent.

Summit Mayor Elizabeth Fagan said the city hadn’t doled out any of the funding in the 2025 reporting period because it was doing “due diligence on appropriate management of these funds so that our process is compliant with all laws and standards.”

A strategic plan was formed this year and officials are working with local nonprofits to determine how the money is spent, Fagan told the outlet.

“They’re not doing what’s intended. It’s just sitting there unspent,” Gibson urged.

“You’re telling us what your priorities are. Your inaction tells us that is not a priority to you.”

Similarly, Aberdeen Township also reported spending nothing, despite receiving just shy of $130,000 in settlement funds since 2022.

Gibson slammed that while she’s “upset that these things are happening,” she’s “even more upset that there’s no accountability.”

“Is there no accountability built into this process?” she questioned. 

Meanwhile, state Assemblyman Cody Miller (D-Gloucester) said he plans to draft legislation to regulate use of the opioid money, calling for tighter oversight and transparency. 

“When (Armato) initially told me what these funds were being spent on, I was pissed off,” Miller said. 

“There’s so much ambiguity with the settlement information … that it’s open to interpretation.”

Miller, whose older brother and sister have struggled with addiction, said municipalities and the state “can learn from it” and that he hopes “it can help us make sure that we’re doing things more appropriately and that funds are being spent for their intended purpose.”

Matt Gogel, a golfer on the PGA Tour Champions circuit, was suspended six months by the organization for placing bets on PGA Tour events.

Gogel released a statement claiming that he placed "small recreational wagers on golf" in 2024 without knowing he did so.

"I want to be clear that these wagers were not placed on regular PGA Tour events, PGA Tour Champions events or any tournament in which I participated," Gogel said in his statement released by the PGA Tour.

Gogel’s suspension will begin on Sunday and run until Feb. 22, 2027.

NFL SUSPENDS ARIZONA CARDINALS EXECUTIVE FOR VIOLATING GAMBLING POLICY, LEAKING DRAFT INFO

The PGA Tour claimed that Gogel never once bet in a tournament he participated in. However, he violated the Tour’s integrity program where wagering on PGA-sanctioned events is prohibited.

Gogel isn’t the first documented suspension for betting on PGA Tour events. In 2023, Vince India and Jake Staiano on the Korn Ferry Tour were suspended six months and three months, respectively, for similarly placing bets on PGA Tour competitions.

Gogel, 55, had just one PGA Tour victory in his career, which came at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2002. However, after his first career on Tour, he became a golf broadcaster with The Golf Channel and CBS Sports.

When he turned 50, Gogel joined the PGA Tour Champions, which is the senior circuit of the golf organization.

For the Milwaukee Brewers' Dustin May, his first pitch was also his last.

New York Mets center fielder A.J. Ewing lined the 95.8 mph sinker right back at May, who was able to turn his body but still was struck in the back by the ball, which was traveling at 106 mph off of Ewing's bat.

The "Foul Territory" podcast detailed on social media that the ball hit May's right shoulder.

Third baseman David Hamilton then gathered the ball and threw it to first to get Ewing out.

May, though, knelt on the grass in pain, and as he was tended to by the training staff, it seemed that even breathing was painful due to the injury.

He threw several pitches in an effort to give it another go, "raising his arm and shaking his right hand between tosses," reports the Associated Press.

Ultimately, though, he was unable to continue.

As he walked off the field, he shook his head in obvious frustration that his start ended so soon, but fans still gave him an ovation for the effort.

Robert Gasser came in and finished off the inning.

It's the first time since Pablo Lopez exited after one pitch on July 2, 2021, reports Jerry Beach of the Associated Press.

Zach Braziller of the New York Post later reported that May is not believed to have suffered a significant injury due to the comebacker.

"The Brewers later said he suffered a right scapula contusion and that X-rays came back negative," Braziller wrote.

While nothing was broken, May will likely be dealing with pain for a while.

A hard-hit ball like that is sure to leave at least a large bruise, if not a knot as well.

Fortunately for May, there's still some time before the playoffs begin.

The Brewers have the best record in baseball at 81-51 as of Wednesday evening, and they'll surely be hoping to make a run at the pennant and potentially a World Series this October.

He'd be smart to use September to get healthy ahead of the stretch run.

Apart from the special show he performed with an orchestra in London, Harry Styles has played basically the same set since his “Together, Together” tour opened in Amsterdam 33 shows and nearly three months ago. But for the opening night of his unprecedented 30-show stand at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, he completely overhauled the set, drastically re-ordering the songs, rearranging several older ones, and performing one song publicly for the first time.

He also took a moment to pay brief but loving tribute to Dolly Parton, whose death was announced on Tuesday, pausing for a moment late in the show to say, “I just wanna give a proper thank you to all the musicians who have inspired me over the years — Dolly, we love you. Thank you so much.” Then her recording of “I Will Always Love You” — of course, her best-known song and one of the biggest hits in history when covered by Whitney Houston — played over the P.A. for a minute before he carried on the show.

It was clear from the show’s opening notes that this one would be different: Styles took the stage to “Dance No More,” replacing the previous opener “Are You Listening Yet?,” and then launched into “Carolina,” a deep from his solo debut, which he hadn’t performed live since that first solo tour. From there, songs that were previously played late in the set were performed early (and vice versa), and mid-set, “The Waiting Game” from his latest album, “Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally.,” got its live debut.

Early in the show, Styles took a moment to acknowledge a full-circle moment on this opening night. “I was told a story when I got here today,” he said. “I had the great privilege of playing this building for the first time when I was 18 years old,” he said, referencing One Direction’s debut at the venue in 2012. “There’s a gentleman who’s working here who hwas working here then, who shared with me that when I got out of the car that day, I kissed the floor and said, ‘I’ve made it to Madison Square Garden!’” The crowd erupted in cheers.

Things were going entirely too well for the 2026 Baltimore Orioles.

After a 13-1 drubbing of the Cardinals on Tuesday to start a crucial nine-game road trip, they were cruising up 7-0 after two innings. This group, with one of the worst starting lineups in MLB all season, had scored 20 runs in 11 innings, Pete Alonso continued a ridiculous 17-game tear with another opposite field homer and their highest-paid pitcher, Kyle Bradish was staked to a huge lead against a quickly-fading opponent that had to go back to a thinned out bullpen again.

So of course they made a meal of it. Of course, Craig Albernaz, that bumbling, wannabe skipper of theirs, who tried to bully the media again Tuesday after being unable to keep his story straight about Alonso’s calf, left Bradish in way too long. It’s just what he does and this is just what this franchise has been for over two years now.

Anyway, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, who had four hits and is on fire the last week, delivered his fourth hit of the game to drive in Samuel Basallo in the top of the ninth for an 8-7 win at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, taking the series. But few individuals are more important in this lost season than Bradish, and the way the manager let him suffer without intervening is another indication this team will win nothing with him a part of it.     

The big takeaway here isn’t where they stand in the ridiculous Wild Card standings in the pathetic American League. They were never build for October. It’s Bradish. He’s been showing signs of distress and fatigue for a while, he threw less than 40 innings each of the prior two seasons due to the timing of his Tommy John surgery and they insist on stretching him and pushing him.

A six-man rotation seemed inevitable. We’ll see how Bradish holds up in September, but he totally fell apart in the fifth inning and Albernaz’s inactivity was as responsible for it getting that bad as anything. Bradish gave up a single, got a flyout, then walked consecutive batters. You could tell right here he was losing it.

“The back-to-back walks hurt in the fifth,” Albernaz observed in his post-game press conference.

We got a quick mound visit, that was it.

Alec Burleson, just back from the minors, jumped a first pitch for a hit, just like Bryan Torres did to open the inning, and still Albernaz did nothing. Jordan Walker lined a ball to left that Dylan Beavers should have caught and didn’t. So now it’s 7-4, with two on.

“If he catches that ball, who knows,” Albernaz mustered, I guess thinking that was a good reason to keep his struggling starter out there.

Bradish was really laboring and now let down by his defense; bench jockey probably eating seeds and thinking about which beat writer he wants to try to embarrass postgame. Still nothing from him.

Nathan Church doubles to left center. Finally, Bradish is pulled.

Alex Hoppe comes in, an inherited runner scores on a ground-out after a steal of third base. Bradish had to eat nine hits over 4 1/3, with seven earned runs and two walks. All that pounding and just one homer – a solo shot – and he struck out just four of the 23 batters he faced, throwing 91 pitches.

Bradish has failed to complete five innings in three of his last six starts, but damn if they weren’t going to force him to try here. He has allowed 41 hits in 29 2/3 IP over those six starts with a 6.08 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in a lost season in which this team sold at the trade deadline. They gave Bradish a $100M extension and their really going to entrust this lightweight pretend manager to navigate this?

They are asking for trouble. Albernaz clowns himself by acting incredulous whenever probed about innings limits. Probably a good time to skip Bradish a start; which means these jokers will do nothing.

At Least They Started Strong

You knew this offense would cool off, and it did. The seven-run spurt was fun though. They sprayed the ball to all fields and manufactured runs a and Basallo busted his hump for infield singles. Leody Taveras hit a three-run bomb and Alonso (at DH with the calf issue) kept doing his thing.

“It’s almost unreal to watch,” Encarnacion-Strand said of Alonso on MASN postgame, “and it’s been great to be his teammate.”

Of course Gunnar Henderson, arguably the worst hitting slugger in MLB on the road this season and coming off a terrible Tuesday stayed in the three hole, and went one-for five (.692 OPS) and failed to deliver again with two outs and RISP (.400 OPS in those situations this season, somehow) and it turns out with Albernaz intent on letting Bradish fully meltdown that every run was going to matter.

Andrew Kittredge put two on in the ninth but got out the jam with Jackson Holliday making a nifty sliding play to help him out.

Bird Seed

Right fielder Tyler O’Neill probably played his final game of the season. He went on the IL with a rotator cuff strain from a diving catch he made recently. The veteran has been injury prone for years. The Orioles, short on middle infielders, added Luis Vazquez to the active roster.

After the Chicago White Sox won in a scoring frenzy on Tuesday night to even the series, they followed it up with another great performance against the Texas Rangers, winning 10-4.

In their latest series win, Tristan Peters made White Sox history, hitting a home run in his fifth consecutive game. Let's talk about it!

Tristan Peters and Offense Stay Hot

After scoring 11 runs in Tuesday night's win, the White Sox followed that up with another 10-run performance to win the series. The White Sox would register 15 hits, with everyone in the lineup but Randal Grichuk reaching base.

Peters was the star of the game, as he has been for the last five outings. Once again, he hit a home run, his 12th of the season, to make it five consecutive games with a home run.

He became the eighth White Sox player to complete this feat, joining Munetaka Murakami, A.J. Pierzynski, Paul Konerko, Carlos Lee, Frank Thomas, Ron Kittle, and Greg Luzinski. Great company, right? Of those players, Peters is the third rookie, joining Murakami, and Kittle.

This was also Peters' first home run against a left-hander in his career, showcasing his increasing talent. Peters was 3-for-4 with two runs driven in. Brenton Doyle also hit a home run in this win to extend the lead and was 2-for-4 on the night.

Sean Burke Outing Doesn't Sink White Sox

You could tell just by the first couple of batters that Sean Burke didn't have the elite command we've gotten used to seeing the past few months. In just three innings, Burke had an unbelievably high 92 pitches, giving up two hits and eight walks. Despite the eight walks, Burke gave up just two runs, both of which came via the home run.

Sean Newcomb would come into the game soon after and continue his excellence on the mound. In three innings, he gave up just two hits, along with stranding two runners in the fourth inning. Newcomb has not given up an earned run since July 27. With a 2.28 ERA on the season, he has been one of the best pitchers on this team.

Jonathan Cannon would come in for the three-inning save, a rarity in today's game, but gave up two runs in the process on four hits and two walks.

Next Up

The White Sox will have a much-needed off day on Thursday before traveling to Minnesota for a pivotal series against the Twins. On Friday, Luis Castillo will start against Dean Kremer. Castillo has struggled in a White Sox uniform, with a 5.89 ERA in four starts. The hope is that he will get right before the playoffs.

Kremer, since being acquired by Minnesota at the trade deadline, has been the opposite. In four starts, he has a 3.18 ERA. The White Sox will look to carry their offensive dominance into this series.

Brendan Donovan has only been able to muster 39 games this season and somehow produced a full season’s worth of medical updates. He was derailed twice by a groin strain. Then, weeks after returning from a two-and-a-half-month absence, a baseball struck him in the head during pregame live batting practice. That sent him to the seven-day concussion IL. 

Some seasons go sideways. Donovan’s has continued to move in different directions, none of them steering him toward the baseball field. 

The Mariners acquired Donovan to help settle their lineup. He has useful traits that should attract any contender. They were especially attractive to the Mariners who needed more reliable at-bats in their lineup.

We’ve barely gotten the opportunity to see that plan work out. Donovan underwent major sports hernia surgery last October while he was still with the Cardinals. The aftereffects followed him into 2026, bringing hip and groin discomfort that he and the Mariners connected to the procedure. A left groin strain put him on the IL in April. He returned May 8, lasted 10 days and landed right back on the shelf with the same injury.

His second absence stretched into August. The Mariners kept shuffling their infield and waiting for one of their biggest offseason additions to become part of their everyday plans. When he finally returned, there was reason to believe the worst had passed. Donovan told MLB.com that he was playing pain-free for the first time in more than a year.

Who would’ve thought the batting cage was going to be the next thing to put him back on the shelf? A throw got away during live batting practice before the M’s faced the Cubs and struck Donovan in the head. He wasn’t wearing a helmet, which is completely normal. General  manager Justin Hollander called it a “freak accident” and said Donovan had experienced a “year from hell.”

Not sure it could’ve been said any better than that.  The helmet detail deserves attention and should produce safer habits around the cage. But it doesn’t require any sermon. It could’ve happened to anyone. Donovan was taking extra work before a game, one of the most routine acts in baseball. One bad throw turned it into his third IL stint.

As of Monday, Donovan was still experiencing concussion symptoms, although the Mariners said he had improved. His recovery will run on its own clock. The lineup, the standings and all the time he has already lost will not speed it up.

So, what can we honestly make of Donovan’s debut season? Very little beyond the obvious frustration. Thirty-nine scattered games offer no fair read on how well he fits into a Seattle lineup over six months. The only firm conclusion is how quickly a carefully constructed plan can become irrelevant.

TCU Horned Frogs football has a chance to make a run in a wide open Big 12 Conference, coming off a 9-4 season in 2025. But if they do, local fans who subscribe to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram won't have access to the type of reporting they might normally expect.

The Star-Telegram reported recently about an incident in the TCU locker room that resulted in senior safety Jacob Fields being dismissed from the football team. Fields allegedly assaulted another player, wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma, though the initial report didn't identify him directly. Ezukanma posted a now-deleted Instagram video acknowledging that he was the other player involved.

TCU has now, per the paper, rescinded the Star-Telegram’s credentials to cover Horned Frogs athletics. And it's supposedly because of the "health and wellbeing" of student athletes.

"Our primary focus is the health and wellbeing of our student athlete," said TCU athletic director Mike Buddie in a statement this week. "Unfortunately, an unnamed source without first-hand knowledge of the incident provided inaccurate information cited in initial reporting by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, which we strongly disputed.

"The inclusion of the misinformation advanced a narrative that endangered a student-athlete and resulted in threats to him and his family. These actions led to the decision to withhold the media credential until additional conversation can be held between athletics and the sports reporting team. We remain dedicated to restoring our student to health as well as focusing on the game that’s ahead."

This decision came just a few days before the Horned Frogs start their season against Bill Belichick's North Carolina team in Dublin on Saturday. The paper's TCU reporter, Steven Johnson, is still traveling to cover the game from Ireland, though he will now not have media credentials to do so within the press box.

TCU's athletic department was reportedly not clear about what the Star-Telegram needs to do to regain their credential, but without question, the biggest irony in the whole story is that the Horned Frogs' home stadium is named after the founder and publisher of... the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Banning news organizations from doing their jobs is not what schools and athletic departments should be doing. Given the player identified himself, how TCU is blaming this on the Star-Telegram is inexplicable. What's more likely here is that TCU simply didn't like a negative story about their locker room that potentially reflected poorly on head coach Sonny Dykes, so they punished the paper.

We'll see if they get their credential back in time to report on Saturday's game. They should.

New details just continue to surface regarding Mark Mitchell's case for eligibility at Kentucky, although the latest is just a crackdown on old news. The former Missouri forward had to go to court in a Louisville courtroom to fight against the NCAA for a fifth year of eligibility. He won his case on Friday, and 24 hours later, he was a Kentucky Wildcat. But, through all of the mess, there was one long-time rule within the SEC that has now reared its head.

Last Friday, we wrote about how the SEC's intraconference transfer rule could impact where Mark Mitchell goes if he was declared eligible. For context, the rule only applies if a player transfers outside of the immediate portal window, which starts after the National Championship game. Commissioner Greg Sankey has really started to crack down on the rule. "SEC eligibility rules, including those relating to intraconference transfers, remain in effect until fully or individually waived, or the rule is changed," Sankey said in a memo to schools earlier this month. Now, at SEC meetings this week, it appears he is starting to crack down on it even more.

What's Sankey and the SEC's argument that Mitchell's move to Kentucky violates the rule? The fact that Mitchell did not make the move during the intitial portal window. According to CBS Sports' Matt Norlander, Mitchell's eligibility to play this season is 'in doubt' due to the conference reaffirming their position on the intraconference transfer rule. "Mitchell—who previously played at Mizzou—recently received a TRO in Kentucky for an additional fifth season, is believed to fall under the definition of prohibited intra-SEC transfer due to not transferring in the initial portal window," Norlander wrote.

"Mitchell, who finished his senior year at Mizzou in the spring, did not enter the portal then because there was no expectation he would have the opportunity to transfer. He entered the portal last Friday with a do-not-contact tag and committed to UK less than 24 hours later," Norlander continued. "From the sounds of it, the SEC is readying to treat Mitchell's transfer in a secondary/delayed window as falling under the terms of its previously agreed upon bylaw. Violation of this rule would lead to the same punishments as the SEC agreed on earlier Wednesday."

If the rule is in fact violated, the SEC will enforce the following punishments, the same ones used for teams violating the policy set forth on Wednesday:

Kentucky will obviously fight for Mitchell's eligibility, likely using the argument that Mitchell could not transfer in the initial window because he was technically out of eligibility at the time, with no choice but to play in the summer league before the opportunity of a fifth year presented itself. But, we'll see how that holds up with the SEC because it seems like they're not cutting any slack with this intraconference rule. If the conference declines Mitchell's move from Missouri to Kentucky, he would technically be eligible to return to the Tigers or transfer out of the SEC.

Who knows what ultimately ends up happening at this point, but we're probably in for more twists and turns before a decision is final.

The first availability report of the 2026 season is here and it is a full one for the Cavaliers.

Virginia will be without its projected No. 1 wide receiver for Saturday's season opener against N.C. State, while star linebacker Kam Robinson remains a game-time decision.

Wednesday's initial ACC weekly injury report listed 16 Cavaliers as out against the Wolfpack. Most notable is Flores, a transfer from UCLA, who dealt with hamstring issues during training camp.

TyLryic Coleman, who has six career receptions in three seasons at Virginia, was listed as the backup to Flores at the X receiver spot on the depth chart released by the school on Tuesday. It would be the first career start for the 6-foot-2, 198-pound Danville native, who impressed coach Tony Elliott with his training camp performance.

"Pleased with where Ty’lyric is in his progression," Elliott said on Tuesday.

Flores made 36 catches in two seasons at UCLA (24 last year) after amassing 27 in one season at Notre Dame.

Flores is the only starter or second-teamer on the initial depth chart who has been listed as out for Saturday's 3:30 p.m. game at Scott Stadium. Robinson, who is recovering from a torn ACL that ended his 2025 season prematurely last November, and backup defensive back Corey Costner are listed as questionable.

Elliott said on Tuesday that Robinson's status won't be finalized until just before kickoff.

"He’s back in practice, moving around, pretty much doing everything. This will be a big week, though, as we progress when you look at where his situation is," Elliott said. "He’s tracking ahead of schedule based off of what you tend to look at timing-wise with an injury like his. But, man, he’s excited. He’s moving around, but it’ll be closer to game time."

Costner's injury is undisclosed.

Other Cavaliers who won't be playing due to injuries include receivers Dillon Newton-Short, Tristan Ward and Isaiah Robinson; running back Jack Stevens; offensive linemen Noah Hartsoe and Grant Ellinger; tight end Lukas Unger; defensive linemen Chase Morrison, Tyler Simmons; Ezekiel Larry and Bull Richardson; linebacker Isaiah Reese; defensive back Alex Dunn; and kicker Tim Hamann.

Solomon Beebe, a transfer who had been penciled in as Virginia's primary kickoff returner, was also on the list. He was suspended indefinitely while facing three misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty.

N.C. State's injury list is much shorter, with just seven names. Two of them (offensive lineman Rylan Vann and wide receiver Tyreek Copper) are projected as primary backups, although the Wolfpack has not released an official depth chart.

Other Wolfpack players listed as out are defensive back Isaiah Crowell, receiver Teddy Hoffman, tight end Gus Ritchie, and defensive linemen Carmelo McKenzie and J.J. Ferguson Jr.

Just a few days ago, Good Good Golf was viewed as one of the largest brand names among young people starting their interest in golf.

Unsurprisingly, major golf brands were quick to partner with the YouTube channel and its personalities. They have a partnership with Callaway Golf to develop putters, golf clubs and golf balls. Their branded apparel is carried by major retailers, including WorldWide Golf Shops outlets such as Roger Dunn in Southern California. It is also sold online through retailers such as Target and at most Dick’s Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy locations.

Good Good became the center of controversy in golf over the past week thanks to an ad they made to promote a branded version of Callaway's new driver. The ad was meant to be a parody of the hit movie "Obsession," but was very poorly conceived and executed. In the ad, Garrett Clark, one of the founders of Good Good, shoves a woman, Alexis Miestowski, to the ground and says "do not touch my new driver."

Without question, it was a bad ad, made in poor taste, that should not have been released. And the backlash started almost immediately. Fans blasted it for depicting a man shoving a woman to the ground. It was pulled down. The group issued a statement saying it wasn't "aligned with our values."

"We posted a video to our channels that ultimately depicted actions that are not aligned with our values as a brand," the statement said. "We have since taken that content down. And sincerely apologize. Good Good has always stood for making the game of golf more inclusive to all, and we will continue to ensure that is our mission moving forward."

Callaway golf initially let Good Good take the blame, saying they were "disappointed" in the video. Then, at 1 a.m. Eastern, issued another statement confirming that the club manufacturer had approved the ad's release, an unsurprising though important admission.

As a result of the controversy, the debut of "Big Break X Good Good," a new show set to air on Golf Channel, was delayed after title sponsor Golf Galaxy reportedly requested that its name be removed from the broadcast. That was just the start.

Front Office Sports reported on Wednesday that Dick's Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy and the PGA Tour Superstore had pulled the company's merchandise from their product shelves. There are rumors that the Good Good sponsored PGA Tour event, the Good Good Championship at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa’s Fazio Canyons Course in Austin, Texas, could be canceled.

In fact, new PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said as much this week. Addressing the ad and response, Rolapp said he was disappointed in how it played out.

"I think initially no," Rolapp said referring to how the company handled the backlash. "I think what we saw was concerning, is clearly not aligned with PGA TOUR values. We take it very seriously. I think their initial response was disappointing. It was a bit defensive and late. But I think the responses are getting better. I think we've seen some things this morning, we've had some conversations with them, so we'll continue to monitor and work with them going forward. But no, we were disappointed with what we saw."

When asked about the future event, Rolapp described it as a "fluid situation."

"I think I mentioned before, it's a bit of a fluid situation," Rolapp said. "We were disappointed at first. It sounds like in the last 24 hours they've made some progress. We'll continue to monitor the situation and see how it develops."

And that is where this has all gone way, way too far.

Again, it is not up for debate that the ad was awful and should never have been conceived, filmed, edited, or approved. The fact that so many steps had to happen, and that so many had to approve it at each step of the way, and nobody pointed out how bad it looked is bewildering and indefensible. Obviously, men should not be shoving women to the ground. Even in a parody of a movie, it was bad.

That said, pulling their merchandise off the shelves? Canceling shows? Pulling down title sponsorships? As if they were endorsing domestic violence or aggression towards women? Or saying women shouldn't play golf, when they literally have a YouTube channel called "Good Good Girls"?

Clark posted a lengthy video to X on Wednesday addressing the concept behind it, apologizing for his role in it, and explaining the pitch they received from the marketing team. He took accountability for how bad the ad looks, repeatedly says that it was a bad idea from the start, and confirms, of course, that he didn't actually hit a woman.

Temporarily delaying the release of a show for a week in response to this ad? Sure. Acting as though Good Good needs to be permanently shunned by the golf world for it? That's absurd. Young boys and girls are not going to stop watching Good Good Golf because of a bad advertisement. YouTube Golf continues to grow, and while many golf purists hate it, there's immense value to it. New audiences become interested in the sport, then many start watching PGA Tour events or other golf competitions and become potential lifelong fans.

Yes, they made a mistake, but moving past the "cancel culture" obsession was supposed to end this type of hysterical corporate overreaction. For Rolapp, it's not surprising, coming from the woke factory that is the modern NFL, but for the other retailers, it's ridiculous.

What's the punishment for Callaway? Is Golf Galaxy and the PGA Tour Superstore going to pull their products from the shelves for approving the ad's release? Of course not, because Callaway generates far too much money for those companies through club and golf ball sales. That's how you know this is performative; there's no consequence for the biggest name involved here.

Does Good Good deserve criticism for the ad? Yes, absolutely. It's objectively terrible, by their own admission. Should Good Good be permanently shunned from golf now? No, of course not.

An armed man arrested at President Donald Trump's California golf course allegedly had first lady Melania Trump's schedule and detailed information about U.S. Secret Service (USSS) personnel, according to reports.

Jeanine John Taele, 38, had more than 200 pages of writings that included schedules for the first lady and members of the president's USSS detail, The Associated Press reported Wednesday, citing information revealed during a court hearing.

The New York Post reported that prosecutors said Taele had seven notebooks containing 208 pages of drawings and sketches of Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles in Rancho Palos Verdes, lists of USSS schedules, details about individual security personnel and copies of Melania Trump's schedule.

The writings also included detailed lists about surviving "off the grid," according to the AP.

Los Angeles County Judge John Lonergan Jr. called the allegations "alarming" during Wednesday's hearing.

"This case itself is alarming in this day and age with the violence that is creeping into our everyday lives, especially with our partisanship in the political environment" ahead of the midterms, Lonergan said, according to the AP.

The judge suspended criminal proceedings after a pretrial evaluation indicated Taele was not mentally fit to stand trial and sent the case to a mental health court, the AP reported.

Taele was arrested earlier this month after plainclothes federal agents spotted him walking the grounds of the golf club, taking photographs and videos and appearing to monitor security-planning activities ahead of Trump's visit, Fox News Digital previously reported.

Deputies who detained Taele allegedly found a 16-round magazine loaded with hollow-point ammunition in his pants pocket, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities searched his vehicle and recovered a loaded pistol with a round in the chamber and another magazine containing hollow-point ammunition.

Taele claimed he worked for the State Department and was at the golf course for a security detail.

Investigators later searched Taele's Downey home and recovered an illegally modified AR-platform rifle, a .45-caliber pistol, body armor, high-capacity magazines, bulk ammunition, radio signal devices and multiple notebooks containing what authorities described at the time as "concerning statements."

The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force, USSS and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department have been investigating the case.

Taele, a Marine who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, will remain jailed until a Sept. 9 hearing at Hollywood Mental Health Court, according to the AP.

Taele's public defender, A.J. Bayne, cautioned against drawing conclusions about his client's motives.

"He's a veteran, he served our country, and I don't know enough right now, but he has a family that loves him, that has huge support for him," Bayne told the AP, adding that "people assume too much" about Taele's motives.

The USSS previously told Fox News Digital that it does not comment on specific protective intelligence matters, but "thoroughly investigates any information or activity that may reasonably be perceived as a protective intelligence concern or indicate a potential threat or directed interest toward any individual under Secret Service protection."
