They’re the real raiders of the lost Ark.
Researchers claim they’ve potentially discovered wood from Noah’s Ark in Eastern Turkey, potentially cracking a caper that has eluded believers for thousands of years.
The so-called discovery was reportedly made in the Durupınar Formation, a roughly 538-foot-long geological structure near Mount Ararat.
Discovered in 1959, site has fascinated Ark hunters for decades due to its ship shape and proximity to the events in the Bible.
Radar scans show alleged corridors within the formation. In the religious text, the legendary vessel sheltered Noah, his family and Earth’s animals during an apocalyptic flood some 4,300 years ago.
After studying the repository for years, researchers feel they’ve found evidence that the site is indeed the Ark’s final resting place, dispelling theories that it formed naturally.
Andrew Jones, project head and founder of Noah’s Ark Scans, told the Daily Mail that they’ve discovered both charred and uncharred wood nearly 30 feet underground, which could potentially be “the charred remains of Noah’s Ark.”
However, Jones notes that the wood could entail the remains of a campfire a shepherd had started while sheltering inside the Ark hundreds of years ago.
Although they’re unsure if it was purposefully set alight or ignited via lightning strike or volcanic eruption.
The Durupinar Formation, a large, boat-shaped geological formation located about 29 kilometres south of Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey, is shown in this photo released Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018. According to the researchers, the blaze might’ve helped preserve the remnants by slowing the decomposition of wood in soil.
Either way, this marks the latest in a series of clues that supposedly support the boat’s biblical provenance.
Previously, Noah’s Ark Scans used ground-penetrating radar to map what they claim is a series of subterranean chambers and tunnels at the site, whose dimensions mirror those described in the bible.
These underground corridors reportedly led to a central cavity that Jones dubbed the “Atrium.”
“God told Noah to bring the animals in,” Jones told GB News in the Spring while explaining the alleged significance of the so-called quarters. “And so these animals would have stayed there, plus Noah and his family.”
Meanwhile, soil analysis revealed that the inside dirt harbored three times more organic matter — and 38% more potassium — than samples taken right outside, hinting at its unnatural origins.
Jones said his team’s case was strengthened this past fall when a drilling and scanning expedition revealed that there was no natural bedrock beneath the formation as many critics claim.
Instead, they found rich black soil, which researchers plan to test for signs of decayed wood and other alleged signs of the Ark this winter.
“Noah’s Ark was a giant wooden boat, according to the Bible,” said Jones. “As wood decays, you’re gonna find elevated organic matter.”
