Josh Simmons might never take the field for the Chiefs again.

That’s what NFL insider Ian Rapoport suggested during an appearance on ESPN’s “Big Day with Peter Schrager” on Tuesday, just days after the offensive lineman was reportedly told to leave a team meeting by head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“There are a lot of questions about Josh Simmons, who is as talented a left tackle as you could possibly get,” Rapoport said. “He is a stud as a player. I don’t know if he plays for the Chiefs again. I don’t know when he plays for the Chiefs again. There’s nothing more important than protecting Patrick Mahomes. You have to believe in the person doing it, and until that happens, I don’t know that he’s out there.”

The incident, which was first reported by Rapoport and his ESPN colleague Mike Garafolo, took place on Wednesday when Reid asked Simmons to take his feet off a desk during a meeting.

Simmons, 33, reportedly pushed back against his head coach, explaining that his back and hips were hurting. Reid and Mahomes then told him to leave and seek treatment.

Simmons later apologized for the exchange and was placed on injured reserve with a herniated disc in his lower back.

Simmons, a first-round pick in 2025 out of Ohio State, has yet to play in a game this season thanks to the back injury.

Last season, Simmons played in just eight games after missing four weeks due to a family situation and later fracturing his wrist and undergoing season-ending surgery.

On Sunday, the Chiefs lost for the first time this season, falling 20-3 to the Seahawks in Seattle.
